Ars Nova Workshop presents Even Odds, the risk-taking new trio featuring drummer Dan Weiss, saxophonist Miguel Zenón and pianist Matt Mitchell, at Solar Myth on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
Comprising three of the most original voices in modern jazz, Even Odds is a trio built on games of chance. For the group’s debut album, drummer Dan Weiss recorded a host of complex and intricate drum grooves, then handed them on to Zenón and Mitchell, both longstanding collaborators and brilliant improvisers, to respond with their own inventions. Those daunting challenges, intermingled with a number of Weiss’ captivating compositions, now form the repertoire for Even Odds, a pool of malleable foundations that can be mixed and matched throughout what is sure to be a compelling, dauntless and ever-changing performance.
