The Delaware Opera Company is pleased to present Dialogues of the Carmelites, fully staged and sung in English.
The opera is based on the true story of the final days of the Martyrs of Compiègne, a convent of Carmelite nuns living in France during the Reign of Terror at the end of the French revolution, in 1794.
The sisters must renounce their vocation or face the guillotine. Poulenc's haunting, lyrical score carries this drama to its emotional conclusion.
