Initially started as Decoration Day in 1868, Memorial Day (May 28) is a day of reflection to celebrate the men and women who lost their lives serving in the United States Armed Forces.

We've collected a list of services, observances and celebrations for you to attend with your family. There are plenty of celebratory events you can check out during the long holiday weekend in and around Philadelphia!

Let us know how you're spending the holiday on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @Phillyfunguide!

Memorial Day Parade, Service & Reception

Join Laurel Hill as they party like it's 1868 with a traditional Decoration Day ceremony! Admission is completely free (although there is a $5 suggested donation) and open to the public on Sunday May 27, as the historic Laurel Hill Cemetery celebrates our lost service members of the past and present. The day will include a traditional wreath-laying, speeches, a parade and complimentary beer and refreshments.

    Sail Philadelphia

Join the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation for the first ever Sail Philadelphia! Starting on Thursday, May 24 and continuing throughout the Memorial Day holiday, Sail Philadelphia is celebrating Philly's maritime and sailing culture with a fleet of mighty ships.
