  • PHS Pop-Up Garden's 2018 Season!

One of the city's favorite summer pastimes returns with a fresh new season of offerings at two locations! The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) brings back its Pop-Up Gardens starting May 3 at fan favorite locations on South Street and UCity Square.

The "vanguard in outdoor urban oases" will offer a relaxing atmosphere, special drinks, guest chefs and more! Running through October 2018, the gardens will also host a variety of programs for patrons at both locations. Guests can look forward to themed Quizzo nights, craft nights, games and even DIY gardening workshops.

PHS is a nonprofit organization committed to sustainability through bridging the connection between residents and horticulture. Through programs like community gardening, and most notably, the Philadelphia Flower Show, PHS strives to create a more environmentally equitable society. Their summer Pop-Up gardens are no different: all proceeds from the Gardens support various PHS programs, like City Harvest, a network of community gardeners who use their skills to help feed families in need.

    South Street

    15th and South

The flagship location since the beginning, PHS's South Street location continues to be a summer hot spot this season. With some help from a partnership with The Royal Tavern and Friends, the culinary group known for city favorites such as Khyber Pass Pub and Cantina Los Caballitos, the South Street garden boasts a full menu featuring favorites from each of those restaurants as well as a cocktail list inspired by the plants of the season. This location also boasts glow-in-the-dark plants, which we guess you'll just have to see for yourself to understand.

    UCity Square

    36th and Filbert

Returning for its second year, the UCity Square location plans to bring back more of what made it popular last year along with some new surprises. Guests visiting the urban orchard can expect to be greeted by comfortable seating and strawberry plants as well as outdoor games and dog-friendly areas. The garden will be partnering with The Jose Pistola's Group, known for the popular Center City restaurant of the same name, as well as sister restaurant Sancho Pistola's in Fishtown. The Group will bring fresh margaritas, an extensive craft beer selection and a fresh take on Mexican cuisine to UCity Square.
