Opening reception of Mel Leipzig: Life Observed

Opening reception of Mel Leipzig: Life Observed

Presented by Drexel University - Leonard Pearlstein Gallery at Drexel University - Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design

December 2, 2009

Nationally acclaimed painter, Mel Leipzig will be celebrated as a Rankin Scholar in a series of Drexel University events focused on his lifelong involvement with the arts. An exhibition at Leonard Pearlstein Gallery will feature twelve portraits that showcase Mr. Leipzig’s characteristic attention to detail and unique four-color approach to observational painting in acrylic. Renowned for capturing his subjects amongst the minutia of their daily lives, Mel Leipzig investigates the unique environments of his creative contemporaries– from artists to architects, actors to family members. As a part of this special exhibition, Mel Leipzig will be on-site creating his latest work, a painting of Drexel’s Ellen Forman Dance Studio featuring faculty and students from Drexel’s new dance major. This is a unique opportunity to observe the artist at work as he creates this new painting prior to his exhibition. The work-in-progress will be previewed during the reception for the artist. In addition, in honor of Mel, who is a member of the Ibsen Society of America, Drexel will present Ibsen In The Afternoon: A Reading of Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of The People.
