Using Brown's career as a starting point, Dixon-Gottschild explores the hardships and advances in African-American artistic development through the second half of the 20th-century and into the new millennium. This event is sponsored by the Center for Africana Studies at Penn.

Valentine's Dances of Universal Peace
Presented by Dances of Universal Peace at Lower Merion Friends Meeting Activities Building February 16, 2012 Featuring participatory songs and dances from the world's spiritual traditions. Dances are done in circles, and each dance is done while singing a song from a tradition (ex: Om Mane Padme Hung) and doing a simple dance movement in a circle. These dances are joyful, meditative and heart opening, and will be especially sweet to celebrate the Valentine's Day holiday!
