Presented by Calderwood Gallery at Calderwood Gallery
October 13-November 30, 2009
Three decades of design: Bloomie’s, Brass and The Bulletin In a backward timeline, Calderwood 2, the Philadelphia gallery that specializes in design 1950-Y2K, presents design representations from three decades: 1970s – An entire living room from the avant garde Bloomingdale’s renowned interior design studio, all original, purchased in 1970. Think Lucite sofas, chrome and glass coffee tables and end tables, lighting en suite. 1960s – A Mastercraft dining room set in acid-etched brass and ebonized wood. Abstract cityscape inset panels in the table, buffet and console were designed by Bernhard Rohne. 1950s – A collection from The Philadelphia Evening Bulletin’s archives of original car crash photographs – all within the city limits! Also included in the exhibition is a pair of rare chromed steel club chairs by Milo Baughman for Thayer-Coggin; a 1960s glass and bronze floor lamp from Murano’s Barovier & Toso; a collection of fashion illustrations from the 70s by Suzanne Schwedock. Also a truly amazing pristine hand-made carpet from Edward Fields that is 17 x 17 feet.
