Andy Warhol Exhibition

Presented by Reading Public Museum at Reading Public Museum

More than 60 pop prints and four paintings are the focus of an exciting exhibition at the Reading Public Museum, The Prints of Andy Warhol, on view from March 3 through June 17, 2012. Iconic works by one of the leading figures in twentieth century art including Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy, Mao Tse-Tung, Mick Jagger, Ronald Reagan, and Judy Garland, along with the artist’s famous Soup Cans and Camouflage prints. The exhibition provides an outstanding overview of Warhol’s career as a printmaker. The photographic silk screens date from the early 1960s to the late 1980s.

In addition to the prints and paintings, this special “expanded” exhibition will feature two more engaging aspects of Warhol’s career — in one gallery, an installation of “Silver Clouds,” which recreates a 1966 exhibition that the artist mounted at the Leo Castilli Gallery in New York City consisting of large, free-floating Mylar® pillow-shaped balloons, and in another, a continuous screening of Warhol’s famous “Screen Tests.” Some of these highlight well-known figures such as Dennis Hopper, Edie Sedgwick, Lou Reed, Allen Ginsberg, Salvador Dali, and Marcel Duchamp.

There will be a Members-Only Opening Reception on Friday, March 2, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. ($15 admission). Light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served, and will include a Curator’s Top Five Talk in the galleries.

03/03/12 - 06/17/12

Admission to The Museum is $8 for adults (18-64), $5 children/seniors/students (w/ID) and free to Members and children three years old and younger.

From Asbury Park to the Promised Land: The Life and Music of Bruce Springsteen

Presented by National Constitution Center at National Constitution Center

Everyone is invited to celebrate the right to free expression at an exhibition that rocks! Explore Springsteen’s legendary career in From Asbury Park to the Promised Land: The Life and Music of Bruce Springsteen, the first major exhibition about the pioneering American songwriter. Created by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, this must-see exhibition makes its East Coast debut at the National Constitution Center—the first and only venue where it is slated to travel.

Through such compelling lyrics as “There’s treasure for the taking, for any hard working man who will make his home in the American land,” Springsteen gives voice to the struggles of the working class, veterans, immigrants and other groups whose unique stories add to the definition of “We the People.” Springsteen’s unique brand of heartland rock brings a sense of urgency, patriotism and realism to popular music.

From Asbury Park to the Promised Land
takes a comprehensive look at Springsteen’s catalog, from such early bands as Child, the Castiles and Steel Mill through his work with the E Street Band and as a solo artist. Visitors have the rare opportunity to view several of Springsteen’s guitars, including the Fender Esquire from the cover of Born to Run, as well as the outfit he wore on the cover of Born in the U.S.A., numerous handwritten lyric manuscripts, posters and handbills from all phases of his career, and various awards and honors. In addition, the exhibition features Springsteen’s 1960 Chevrolet Corvette, which he purchased after the success of Born to Run.
