The Walworth Farce

Presented by Inis Nua Theatre Company

What can happen when we become stuck by the stories we tell about our lives? Following on the success of Inis Nua’s production of Bedbound in 2010, visit the world of Enda Walsh again in the rundown London bedsit of a seemingly exiled father and his two sons. Twisting and turning, this farce combines uproarious comedic moments with shocking realism to portray a family absorbed by their own personal mythology.

Originally commissioned by Druid Theatre Company, The Walworth Farce was a huge success at the 2007 Edinburgh Fringe Festival (and winner of the Scotsman Fringe First Award) and was later staged in London at the National Theatre. This is a Philadelphia premiere.

It won the Tony, the Drama Desk, and the Pulitzer. It remains one of the longest running shows in Broadway history. Playwright and composer Jonathan Larson set out to bring musical theatre to the MTV generation and he succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. Adapted from Puccini’s La Boheme, this is the smash hit that brought you “La Vie Boheme,” “Seasons of Love,” “One Song Glory,” “Light my Candle,” and defined a generation coming of age in the AIDS era.

Jeni & Billy

Presented by PSALM - The Philadelphia Society for Art, Literature and Music at PSALM - The Philadelphia Society for Art, Literature and Music

Jeni comes by her mournful, lonesome voice honestly. Born in the coalfields of Southwest Virginia, her singing has been compared to that of Mother Maybelle Carter and Hazel Dickens. A born storyteller, she has been a writer almost since she could put pen to paper, a vocation inherited from her journalist father and grandfather. Jeni honed her powers of observation and turn of phrase as a student of Pulitzer Prize-winning Northern Irish poet (and sometime rock lyricist). Paul Muldoon, with his typical brevity, called Jeni & Billy's 2006 EP Sweet & Toxic "Great Stuff!!!"

Billy comes to the duo with a long history of music-making. He has been everywhere from Germany to the Grand Ole Opry playing his guitar and singing. A Baltimore native, he was introduced to the world of country music through the fateful movie house experience of seeing Bonnie & Clyde. He loved the music of Flatt & Scruggs so much he went back just to listen fourteen times. He has played numerous bluegrass festivals sharing stages with Jim & Jesse and Jimmy Martin. Billy has also performed solo at nationally known venues such as the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, the Lonestar Cafe in New York, the Kennedy Center and the Birchmere, opening for Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Kathy Mattea, Janis Ian, and Joe Ely among others. He has leant his talents to the shows of many folk luminaries including Oscar Brand, Christine Lavin, and Tom Paxton, as well as producing and touring with Debi Smith.

Together, Jeni & Billy will draw you into captivating narratives of heartache and hard living, of true life blues and unexpected grace. Images of coal & crowns, trash & trailers, and glass and gasoline recur, and Jesus and the Great Speckled Bird are never far off.

Guys and Dolls

Presented by Broadway Theatre of Pitman at Broadway Theatre of Pitman

The Broadway Theatre of Pitman is proud to end its sixth Mainstage Season with one of the most classic musical comedies ever created! Set in Damon Runyon's New York City, this oddball romantic comedy soars with the true spirit of Broadway. You're introduced to Nathan Detroit, who is running his famous crap game in the streets of New York; his fiance, Miss Adelaide, the perpetually ill nightclub performer who just wants to get married; Sarah Brown, the sweet missionary out to reform the "evil doers" of Times Square who gets tangled up with everyone; and Sky Masterson, the suave high roller who falls hard for Sarah. Featuring classic songs such as "Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat," "I'll Know," "Sue Me, "Guys and Dolls" and, of course, "Luck Be A Lady," we can think of no better way to complete the sixth Season here at the Broadway than with this spectacular show. Winner of numerous Tony, Theatre World, Drama Desk, Olivier and Helpmann Awards, this is a treat for audiences of all ages.

This musical comedy is suitable for all audiences.
