Lorimer Park

More than 200 acres of woods and meadows in the suburbs of eastern Abington Township attract visitors to natural beauty year-round. A bequest from the late George Horace Lorimer (former Editor-in-Chief of The Saturday Evening Post), Lorimer Park is a haven for wildlife under a canopy of huge trees. Activities include hiking, picnicking, bird and animal watching, horseback riding (with your own horse), and, in the winter, sledding and cross-country skiing. For the angler, Pennypack Creek is stocked, in-season, with trout by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Overlooking the creek is majestic Council Rock where, as legend says, Native Americans used to meet to plan their activities. It now serves as a beautiful and popular backdrop for wedding photographs. Open daily 8 a.m. to sunset. Visit the web page for additional information.

      06/10/12	Summer Fun in the Creek Lorimer Park Summer Fun in the Creek Presented by Montgomery County Department of Parks and Heritage Services at Lorimer Park June 10, 2012 Come and explore Harper's Run and the Pennypack Creek just like you did when you were a kid. What species of fish and aquatic insects live there? We'll use seine nets and containers to catch a few specimens for identification. Everything will be released unharmed. Prepare to get wet! Wear water shoes that aren't slippery or old sneakers. No flip-flops! For adults and children ages 5 and up. Meet in the parking lot.

We'll provide bug boxes with magnifying lenses and field guides. Learn the names and special adaptations of these amazing creatures. For ages 3-adult. Pre-registration is required. Meet by the ranger hut.

What do the fish eat? Join a knee-deep investigation of the creek. Wear sturdy water shoes or old sneakers (no rain boots or flip-flops). For adults and children ages 6 and up. Pre-registration by phone is required. Meet in the parking lot on Moredon Rd.
