Philadelphia's Academy of Music is both a celebrated historical landmark and a current focus of cultural life in the city. Opened in 1857, the Academy is the oldest grand opera house in the United States still used for its original purpose. It remains one of the busiest halls in the world and hosts a myriad of community functions and cultural activities, including performances by the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Ballet and Philly Pops with Peter Nero. The Academy is owned by The Philadelphia Orchestra Association and is managed by The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.

    Acces Information: The Academy of Music has a ramped entrance on the south side of theater on Broad Street. Please ring the bell to alert the doorman.

    Blind/VI Access: Large print programs are available on each level of the theater - please ask an usher for assistance.

    Deaf/Hearing Access: Sign Language interpreted events are offered occasionally - please call for more information.

    Free "Audio-Aid" hearing enhancement devices are available - please call the Manager's Office in advance at 215-893-1935 to arrange for headset.

    Opera performances have open captions.

    Wheelchair Access: Please call the Box Office in advance at 215-893-1999 to reserve wheelchair seats. Accessible seating is available for every performance and usher assistance is available. 2 elevators are available for the upper floors.
