 At the Urban Defense Center, you will find a wide range of programs that address the diverse needs of the people of Philadelphia! Whether you are looking for beginning martial arts, fitness, advanced technical training, or a home-based self-defense tutorial, Urban Defense has what you need!

 

The Urban Defense programs are tailored for the urban lifestyle. Unlike traditional martial arts schools or fitness centers, the Urban Defense Center combines a structured martial arts program with practical skills for urban living. At the foundation of Urban Defense is the philosophy of hard work, dedication, commitment, responsibility and accountability. Since 1996, Master Lawrence Whitaker has developed a total martial arts program that helps individuals strengthen their minds and bodies so they can achieve their personal best. In addition, he offers the best total-body aerobic workout in the Philadelphia area! Finally, new this year is the Awareness, Safety, and Protection Program (ASAP) designed to bring fitness and personal protection right to your home!

      Free Self Defense Class in Memory of Sabina Rose O'Donnell Urban Defense Center Free Self Defense Class in Memory of Sabina Rose O'Donnell Presented by Urban Defense Center at Urban Defense Center June 6-June 27, 2012 In memory of Northern Liberties resident Sabina Rose O’Donnell, who was brutally raped and murdered on June 2nd, 2010, a local martial arts studio will offer free self defense classes every Wednesday during the month of June. Participants will learn basic and advanced self-defense techniques to avoid dangerous situations and to escape from an assailant.
