Glencairn Museum

Constructed between 1928 and 1939, Glencairn was the home of Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn. Built in a Romanesque style, Glencairn also served to house Pitcairn?s outstanding collection of medieval stained glass and sculpture. The house contains more than 100 rooms on 11 floors, and visitors appreciate its superb handling of glass, metal, wood and mosaic. The Pitcairn home and contents were given to the Academy of the New Church in 1980. Glencairn Museum now educates visitors about the history of religion using art and artifacts from a variety of cultures and time periods. Religious life through the ages is presented by means of a remarkable collection that illustrates religions as varied as ancient Egyptian, ancient Greek and Roman, medieval Christian, Islamic, Asian, and Native American.

    Admission:

    Admission for tours: Adults: $8; Seniors (65+)/Students with I.D. $6; children 4 years and under free. Other prices apply for special events. Museum members receive discounts on tours and special events (see Membership).

    Hours:

    Tours leave regularly on Mondays through Fridays at 2:30pm and Saturdays at 1pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm and 3pm. The Museum is only accessible through guided tours, with the exception of our four Festival Days. You can see all of the galleries through a self-guided tour during those events.

    From Cathedral Road turn right at the top of the hill into the Glencairn Museum lot. Handicapped parking for the Museum is located near the entrance to the building. To reach the handicapped lot, turn right from Cathedral Road into the main Glencairn Museum lot. Continue through the lot curving to the right. Follow the handicapped parking signs to our main entrance, turning to the right before reaching Cairnwood Estate. School buses should park in the lower lot across from Bryn Athyn Cathedral.
