Ryerss Museum and Library

A descendent of Nicholas Waln, one of the original Pennsylvania settlers who came to Philadelphia with William Penn on the Welcome in 1682, Joseph Waln Ryerss built his opulant summer retreat, Burholme, on 85 acres in 1859. The Ryerss Museum displays family objects in the original house and objects collected by the family in its Horace Trumbauer designed 1921 galleries. The library is located on the second floor of the mansion. Originally, this space was shared by the two main bedrooms and the family library. Today, the Library at Ryerss has a wide variety of current best sellers, classics, non-fiction, periodicals, and local history.
