East Oak Lane Architecture One writer wrote: When you see a contemporary house in EOL you probably don’t consider it part of “historical EOL”. But if you attended [the 1st of these 3 lectures]... you would know that this community includes homes and buildings designed by prominent architects using innovative and evolving designs into the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s. [The lectures cover]... EOL's history from its earliest days to the present. The pre American Revolution community of farms was established on land procured from the Lenape Indians by William Penn in 1682; became part of the City of Philadelphia through the Consolidation Act of 1854 and continued to evolve as a site for building summer homes through to the mid 1900's. [These lectures include]... a treasure trove of information that could easily be lost. The complete lecture series is a well researched, well prepared, beautifully presented event that should not be missed by anyone. Collapse

Who would have thought you could get a great all body workout AND have fun. I remember hooping as a kid. It was a blast. As an adult, I can do sooo much more. It's definitely something to do over and over again. The best part is that you can take your hoop home and practice on your own. AWESOME! oh....and picking your favorite color hoop makes you feel like you're 7 years old again. Collapse

I had the privilege of attending the inaugural performance of Brandywine Ballet this fall. It was a superb presentation of Nancy Page’s rendering of Bram Stoker’s classic “Dracula.” The ballet was beautifully staged and wonderfully danced. I was even more impressed by the response by friends whom I had invited to join me for the performance. I counted among them one review that probably said it all: "I never understood ballet before, but this was incredible!" I've understood ballet for quite some time, in my way. I, too, thought it incredible Collapse

I LOVED this show. I'm curious to know if "Someone with taste" is of Irish decent... Yes, the show includes the more depressing parts of Irish history. But that is the beauty of Irish culture - how we have triumphed in the face of trouble. As for "making fun of the Irish", let's remember that the show was written by Frank McCourt... an Irishman. If there is a bit of Irish in "Someone with taste" he's clearly forgotten what it means to have an Irish sense of humor. I saw the show with a large group of friends and we were all thoroughly entertained. The cast is incredibly talented (far from "amateur") - many have impressive New York credits! Go see this show - especially if you're Irish! Collapse

Ron Dank gave a concert in Dayton, OH, at the Vanguard Concert series on March 6, 2010. It was well attended, and was a very strong program with selections from Bach, Beethoven, Bartok, Chopin and Liszt. After I came back home, I listened to each selection on my system, by great performers (Martha Argerich, Artur Rubenstein, for example). Of course, a live performance is superior in its own way, but without doubt this performance compared very well with the best. Do not hesitate if you get a chance to hear this great artist. Collapse

This is the best professional art show in the area. It draws wonderful local and regional artists and the price point for originals, prints and signed prints is great -- there's something for every taste and budget, even in this economy. On Friday, there is wonderful live music playing while you walk around, sample hors d'oeuvres, mingle with the artists and pick out your must have piece. Saturday has a more laid back feeling and there still is live music and you can mingle with the artists. This show has a rich history because it was started by Andrew Wyeth's wife Betsy when their son Jamie was a student at Chadds Ford. This year there are signed Wyeth pieces included in the raffle items! For a great time and a wonderful taste of spring, don't miss the Art Show! Collapse
