Historic Germantown: Freedom's Backyard

Historic Germantown has a relaxed, backyard feel. But our history wasn't always that way. It's where Philadelphia's only Revolutionary War battle was fought, where the first-ever American protest against slavery was written, where one of the few remaining houses on the Underground Railroad still stands, and where the story of every kind of freedom is told--in uniquely personal terms, just minutes from downtown Philadelphia.

    Spend 'Second Saturday' in Historic Germantown Germantown Spend 'Second Saturday' in Historic Germantown Presented by Historic Germantown: Freedom's Backyard at Germantown May 11-October 12, 2013 The 15 historic sites, located in "Our Nation’s Longest Historic Corridor," invite you to learn, interpret, and celebrate 330 years of fascinating cultural heritage. Setting the standard for collaboration among historic institutions, the member sites of Historic Germantown offer their ‘Second Saturdays’ program when all sites will be open from 12-4pm on the second Saturday of each month, May through October.     Ben Franklin Celebrates the 4th of July @ Stenton Stenton Ben Franklin Celebrates the 4th of July @ Stenton Presented by American Historical Theatre and Historic Germantown: Freedom's Backyard at Stenton July 4, 2013 Celebrate the 4th of July with Philadelphia's most iconic signer of the Declaration of Independence: Ben Franklin himself. Stenton: a gorgeous Georgian Historic House, operated by the PA branch of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, hosts Benjamin Franklin for family fun. The house is also open (admission is $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for students and seniors)
