Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture

Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture is a non-profit arts organization based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, that is dedicated to exposing children and youth to the language and culture of the Arab world and to promoting understanding and respect both within the diverse community of Arab-Americans and among children and youth of all ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds.

    Saturday Arabic and Arts Program Saturday Arabic and Arts Program Presented by Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture January 28-June 2, 2012 Open to kindergartners through 8th graders, the Saturday Program focuses on Arabic instruction with reinforcement of the language through the arts.  The first two hours is focused on the Arabic language , co-taught by two native speakers. They will divide the students into two groups, sometimes grouped by age and sometimes by Arabic skill level, depending on the activity.

    Philadelphia Arab Music Ensemble Philadelphia Arab Music Ensemble Presented by Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture January 23-April 30, 2012 Following a successful concert in December, the Philadelphia Arab Music Ensemble begins its Spring 2012 semester on January 23. Rehearsals are held at UPenn on Mondays 6-9 pm. Led by Music Director Hanna Khoury with master percussionist Hafez El Ali Kotain, the Ensemble is open to singers and percussionists of all skill levels and intermediate to advanced musicians of string and wind instruments (6th through 12th graders, college students, and older).

    Emmy Nominated Composer Kareem Roustom Presents Original Works Trinity Center for Urban Life Emmy Nominated Composer Kareem Roustom Presents Original Works Presented by Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture at Trinity Center for Urban Life February 25, 2012 The fourth concert of the Arab Music Concert Series features the works of composer Kareem Roustom including the US premiere of "Abu Jmeel's Daughter,” a music performance narrated by Leila Buck. Born in Syria, Roustom is an Emmy nominated composer who has written scores for award-winning films including Budrus and Amreeka.
