Founded in 1969 by local residents and clergy, Southwest Community Enrichment Center (SCEC) is a not-for-profit, community-based human service organization that provides a broad range of services to the residents of the Kingsessing section of Philadelphia. SCEC's philosophy of service emphasizes both the selfworth of each individual and the identification and coordination of community resources to address community issues. Recognizing the importance of community involvement, a majority of SCEC's staff, board and volunteers are local residents. SCEC's current programs, housed in three row houses in the Kingsessing community, serve approximately 400 adults, children, and senior citizens each week.
