The Violette de Mazia Foundation develops programming that encourages students to see the art, instead of the subject in a painting, thereby furthering the educational methods developed by the philosopher John Dewey, art educator Albert C. Barnes, and teacher and author Violettte de Mazia. Open new doors in your world by learning to read art like an artist. Our method of teaching students the language of art will make art accessible to you wherever you encounter it, whether it be in a museum or in your own backyard.

    06/12/12- 06/28/12	Learning to See: An Introduction Abington Art Center Learning to See: An Introduction Presented by Violette de Mazia Foundation at Abington Art Center June 12-June 28, 2012 Introduce yourself to the language of the arts, the challenge to the artist, and the important role you the viewer play in the experience. Come away with useful tools for appreciating the arts and learn the direct relationship between art and daily life. This 6-session introductory class is appropriate for everyone and applies Violette de Mazia Foundation's objective approach to the arts to a variety of themes and topics.
    06/23/12	The Fountains of Philadelphia Walking Tour Swann Memorial Fountain (The Fountain of Three Rivers) The Fountains of Philadelphia Walking Tour Presented by Violette de Mazia Foundation at Swann Memorial Fountain (The Fountain of Three Rivers) June 23, 2012 Public fountains have played an integral role in the growth and development of Philadelphia, and although their functions have changed they remain vital to the city’s vibrancy. This walking tour will explore the modes and forms of several of Philadelphia’s iconic public fountains, both old and new, with an eye towards their aesthetic and expressive values. Join us and experience these works as you never have before. Activity level: vigorous.
    07/17/12- 08/02/12	Learning to See: An American View Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) Learning to See: An American View Presented by Violette de Mazia Foundation at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) July 17-August 2, 2012 This introductory course will help students address the following questions: What should I look for when viewing a work of art? What is the artist trying to communicate? What is my role in this communication? The class will be held in the galleries of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and includes visits to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. While the class will focus on American art, the perceptual skills learned and the concepts taught are applicable to all the visual arts, as well as...
