Shofuso Japanese House and Garden is a traditional style Japanese house and nationally ranked garden in Philadelphia’s West Fairmount Park that reflects the history of Japanese culture in Philadelphia, from the 1876 Centennial Exposition to the installation of its contemporary paintings in 2007.

A viewing garden with koi pond and island, a tea garden, and a courtyard garden comprise the 17th century-style Japanese walled and fenced garden of this historic site and museum.

    Shofuso Colors II: The Way Home Garden Art Installation Shofuso Japanese House and Garden Shofuso Colors II: The Way Home Garden Art Installation Presented by Shofuso Japanese House and Garden at Shofuso Japanese House and Garden May 2-July 1, 2012 This site-specific installation is composed of a 7-panel (15-20 ft.) folding screen (Byoubu). Within this piece, west and east synthesize. The Byoubu flanks initial entry into the house, confronting and enrapturing visitors by a vibrant, complex, colorful display when they least expect it in Shofuso's early summer foliage.

    08/01/12	Shofuso Colors V: Shades of Truth Installation Shofuso Japanese House and Garden Shofuso Colors V: Shades of Truth Installation Presented by Shofuso Japanese House and Garden at Shofuso Japanese House and Garden August 1, 2012 Shofuso's multicolor gravel which lines the entrance pathway will be rearranged into gradients of light-to-dark on one side, dark-to-light on the other. This piece taps into the concept of historical interpretation and the idea that Shofuso, as well as all "historical" representations, contain shades of truth and fact rather than pure truth and fact.

The narrative will be drafted in three movements: tea garden, ceremony and afterward.

    11/10/12- 11/18/12	Shofuso Colors VIII: Hanufubuki Installation and Tea Service Shofuso Japanese House and Garden Shofuso Colors VIII: Hanufubuki Installation and Tea Service Presented by Shofuso Japanese House and Garden at Shofuso Japanese House and Garden November 10-November 18, 2012 A site-specific recreation of the experience of Hanafubuki (Cherry Blossom Snow), visible from afar. For an off-season treat, Shofuso will be open on a Saturday and Sunday for limited hours and feature hot cups of matcha (green tea) stirred with milk, creating a sense of spring in the colder months of late autumn, like an intimate cherry blossom viewing with a chill.
