04/11/12- 06/13/12	After-School Workshop: Cartooning (Ages 8-10) Fleisher Art Memorial After-School Workshop: Cartooning (Ages 8-10) Presented by Fleisher Art Memorial at Fleisher Art Memorial April 11-June 13, 2012 Learn the fundamentals of creating and designing your own cartoon characters and their environments. Students will learn how to make their own story with their own characters into a comic book, ready to be reproduced. They will learn different techniques and tricks used by professionals to help perfect their own cartooning style. Along the way, students will learn skills by using different exercises and collaborative games to enhance their drawings.

Presented by Fleisher Art Memorial at Fleisher Art Memorial June 9, 2012 Fleisher Art Memorial is pleased to announce the date of their sixth annual ARTspiration! Festival. This day-long event will once again offer free art-making, music, and dance activities for youth and their families on Fleisher’s premises. Also participating with additional activities will be local neighborhood businesses and community partners.
07/09/12- 07/13/12	Mosaic (Ages 8-10) Fleisher Art Memorial Mosaic (Ages 8-10) Presented by Fleisher Art Memorial at Fleisher Art Memorial July 9-July 13, 2012 In this course students will learn several ways to mosaic. In the grand tradition of Philadelphia and Isaiah Zagar we will use found objects and unlikely materials to create beautiful and eclectic mosaics on tiles and three-dimensional objects. In this workshop we will make individual sculptures and collaborate on an edible mosaic to share.
07/09/12- 07/13/12	Modern Dance (Ages 8--10) Fleisher Art Memorial Modern Dance (Ages 8--10) Presented by Fleisher Art Memorial at Fleisher Art Memorial July 9-July 13, 2012 This class is an intro to modern dance. Modern dance encourages dancers to use their emotions and moods to design their own steps and routines. It is not unusual for modern dancers to invent new steps for their routines, instead of following a structured code of technique, as in ballet. Therefore, students will learn basic modern dance steps and combinations as well as create their own steps. The final result will be a short dance to music incorporating all the steps learned and created.

Anything can happen in the pages of a comic book! In this class, we will explore the process of making comic books and graphic novels. We will work on character sketching, writing stories and dialogue, laying out pages and of course, creating cool cover designs. Students are encouraged to bring drawings, ideas, and examples of their favorite comics to the first class.

The theme will be "in memory," inspired by traditional and contemporary memorial embroidery.
