Academy of Vocal Arts

The Academy of Vocal Arts is distinguished by its reputation for high quality performances that are acclaimed by critics locally, nationally and internationally. Each year AVA resident artists are presented in four or five fully-staged opera productions accompanied by the renowned Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. Resident artists are cast in leading roles that they will in all likelihood continue to perform for the rest of their careers.

    02/25/12- 03/03/12	Pélleas et Mélisande Academy of Vocal Arts - Helen Corning Warden Theater Pélleas et Mélisande Presented by Academy of Vocal Arts at Academy of Vocal Arts - Helen Corning Warden Theater February 25-March 3, 2012 In the forest, Prince Golaud finds a frightened and lost girl who calls herself Mélisande. He brings her to his grandfather's castle, and the two marry. Mélisande becomes attracted to his younger half-brother Pelléas, arousing Golaud's jealousy. Pelléas decides to leave the castle but arranges to meet Mélisande one last time and the two confess their love for one another. Golaud, overhearing, confronts Pelléas and kills him. Mélisande dies...
    03/11/12- 03/18/12	Jubilate! A Concert of Sacred Music Jubilate! A Concert of Sacred Music Presented by Academy of Vocal Arts March 11-March 18, 2012 An AVA favorite, this concert features three centuries of sacred vocal music, from Baroque to Gospel and beyond. The AVA soloists are joined by the 100 voice New Jersey MasterChorale. David Antony Lofton conducts the AVA Opera Orchestra.
    04/28/12- 05/13/12	L'elisir d'amore L'elisir d'amore Presented by Academy of Vocal Arts April 28-May 13, 2012 L'elisir d'amore, by Gaetano Donizetti. From the composer's middle period, L'elisir d'amore (The Elixir of Love), is one of the bel canto repertoire's most popular comic operas. The peasant Nemorino is in love with Adina, daughter of a wealthy landowner. The charming plot follows Nemorino's efforts, with the help of a traveling quack doctor, to buy a magic elixir that will make Adina fall in love with him, instead of the boastful young soldier who is his rival for Adina's affections.
