Learn how grist mills have been featured in books and stories for years to teach children about the land and the food we eat Staff members will read from books like “Pancakes, Pancakes!” by Eric Carle and “The Little Red Hen,” which illustrate the journey of the food we eat every day from the field to the table The Mill is also pleased to release "The Grist Mill Cat," the first children's book ever written about the Anselma Mill! It follows a cat's path through a working grist mill in pursuit of a clever mouse The Mill will also offer a flour milling demonstration and plenty of family-friendly activities celebrating the Mill and Pennsylvania agriculture The Mill at Anselma (c 1747) served its local agricultural community for three centuries and is considered the most complete example of a Colonial-era custom grist mill in the United States Now restored and recognized as a National Historic Landmark, the Mill at Anselma provides a powerful educational resource, allowing visitors to experience Chester County’s industrial and agricultural past through flour milling demonstrations, tours of the site and hands-on family activities
