Tres Compadres is a modern flamenco ensemble that explores the boundaries of flamenco and fusion while embracing the elements of tradition that make this genre of music such an incredible art form Inspired by such notable artists as Paco de Lucia, Gerardo Nunez, Tomatito, and Vicente Amigo, Tres Compadres continues the legacy of seeking new ways of applying musical growth to an old tradition The concept behind the songs recorded on Que Pasa was to reflect the ensemble as a unit This is not your typical “musicians back up guitarist” flamenco cd Fast paced unison lines, thoughtful melodies, and complex rhythms interjected with virtuoso solos are featured throughout by all members of the ensemble The band tackles such flamenco song forms (palos) as buleria, rumba, solea por buleria, tangos, tarantas, and solea

Craig Bickhardt's new CD Brother To The Wind contains some of the best work he has done in a long career dedicated to ennobling the art of song Bickhardt's songs have been recorded by over 100 artists including luminaries such as Johnny Cash, BB King, Allison Krauss, Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, Janis Ian and Art Garfunkle For this project, Bickhardt dug deep into his 800-tune catalog These songs are highly artistic, and throughout his extraordinary career he has picked up many believers among the better artists of his generation Fontaine Cooley is original acoustic instrumental music fusing jazz, funk, blues, country, bluegrass and an occasional latin groove What started as a casual conversation between two old musical friends, grew into the rekindling of their passion for playing music together The instrumentation, acoustic guitar, mandolin, bass and drums, might lead one to expect a certain type of music, perhaps country or even bluegrass But while elements of those genres are evident, there are also liberal doses of jazz, funk, blues and Latin, all of which fuse into a style and sound that is uniquely Fontaine Cooley Each song is a small journey, and just when it seems the route is identified, an unexpected turn, a surprising detour occurs

Misadventures In Stereo, the third album by widely lauded singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jim Boggia, is unmistakably the work of a true believer and pop craftsman who’s closely acquainted with music’s capacity for transcendent uplift His songs get the balance right between devastating beauty and sadness, and the big fat joke that is life Born blind in one eye and with limited vision in the other, Boggia grew up an only child with an acutely developed ear for music Blackberry selected one of his tracks for a new ad campaign and his songs have also been featured on MTV’s Real World and ABC-TV’s Men In Trees He’s developed a loyal grass-roots fan base for his dynamic, improvisational live shows His work has been embraced by numerous fellow artists and kindred spirits, many of who have lent their talents to Boggia’s albums

“Movement Lab’s” goal is to serve as a vehicle for dancers and movers to evaluate muscular/structural potential and limits Through this exploration, we will find ways to move more freely and expressively The Lab is focused on finding cognitive playfulness in a movement practice, which in turn allows us to be more dexterous and agile This class is designed to activate our intellectual curiosity, imagination, and creativity A self-exploratory and self-explanatory approach is the central component to this class There will be a set of exercises that will be taught each week The importance in this class is not about repeating the choreography with precision The choreography exercises simply provide structure for which we can practice moving and gather new information for ourselves and our body as we consciously move We will be working with following themes this Spring - Arrivals and departures / creating dance with transitions - Clarity and precision - Balance and weight shifts - Expansion and contraction of space and time - Choices/visualization

Emerging Choreographers Angela Sigley, Jessica C Warchal-King, and Laura Zimmerman question the role (and lack) of morality and ethics in our society in a joint modern dance concert Each performance will include all three dance works Angela Sigley presents The Rented World, an exploration of fear and morbid curiosity The movement is chilling and unsettling, but sparks of beauty flash out from beneath the harsh exterior of violence and death, images cultivated from horror films The Rented World broadcasts our attraction to the things that disturb us, the things we do not understand, and the things that scare us microcosmic current, presented by Jessica C Warchal-King, is a physical investigation of the felt experiences of emotional violence Grounded in research of mind-body centering practices and philosophies, Warchal-King explores the sacredness of the human form and the power of embodied experiences to translate empathy and compassion where words alone fail In microcosmic current, she is joined by musician/ composer Christopher Farrell

Koresh Dance Company takes the stage at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre for its 2010 spring season featuring the world premiere of Sense of Human, by Ronen (Roni) Koresh and the company premiere of Passomezzo by Ohad Naharin, artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company Passomezzo, set to the Baroque melodies of Greensleeves and The Beggar’s Opera, is a highly theatrical pas de deux depicting the intimate dialogue between a man and a woman Ohad describes Passomezzo as a duet about tough love and opposition that explores the tempestuous shifts of balance in a relationship The commissioning of Passomezzo was made possible through a generous grant award from The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through Dance Advance Roni’s new work, Sense of Human, depicts life in its purest, rawest, most guttural state This work delves beneath people's desired self images to discover their true sense of humanity In collaboration with Roni, Greg Smith has created an original score for Sense of Human

Work-in-progress and public discussion: Sample the next stage of work by dancer/choreographer Germaine Ingram, composer/musician Bobby Zankel, and visual artist John Dowell as they collaborate in developing a multimedia performance piece commemorating the nine African Americans enslaved by President George Washington in the President's House at 6th and Market Street here in Philadelphia in the 1790s The project gives significant artists and their audiences chances to consider how history is preserved and retold, how legacies of African traditions and practices may be sustained and transformed in arts, and how resonances of painful pasts shape ways that we imagine our own place and responsibilities Experience the creative process of the artists Share thoughts and questions about how the arts are able to spur and shape public discourse about issues of community interest and concern

If you come off the street, this off Broadway musical
seems just like any other wedding Instead of simply
watching a play, everyone who comes to Tony n’ Tina’s
Wedding becomes the friends and family of the bride
and groom Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding includes dinner
but is not a traditional dinner theatre performance
The very real and extremely funny wedding ceremony
happens first and is followed by the reception There is
a band, which plays songs typical of any current
wedding band The music is so energetic and
entertaining that you will not be able to get off of the
dance floor As the evening progresses the event
happens all around you You can participate by talking
and dancing with the family members who are all
actors or you can sit back and watch your friends and
other wedding guests interact with the wedding party
and guests Any way you do it, it is a wedding you don’t
want to miss!
