The Rite of Spring
April 9-April 11, 2010
Charles Dutoit Conductor. Piotr Anderszewski Piano. Szymanowski Symphony No. 4, for piano and orchestra. Debussy La Mer. Stravinsky The Rite of Spring. Maestro Dutoit continues The Philadelphia Orchestra's focus on works written for the Ballets Russes with Stravinsky's epochal The Rite of Spring, which caused a riot at its 1913 premiere and continues to surprise and provoke, excite and enthrall. Also on the program is La Mer, Debussy's 1905 masterpiece. Polish pianist Piotr Anderszewski, winner of the prestigious 2002 Gilmore Award, joins Maestro Dutoit for the Symphony No. 4 by 20th-century Polish master Karol Szymanowski.
