Jayateerth Mevundi is a Hindustani classical vocalist and celebrated younger representative of the Kirana gharana style of vocal music. He grew up in a musical family in Hubli, Karnataka, and began his formal study of music in the Gwalior gharana. In 1994, he became a student in the lineage of great vocalist Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, and is now widely known for his sonorous voice and virtuoso taankari (rapid melodies improvised on a single sound). This event is sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania South Asia Center.
