Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra was considered a flop in its first performance; only recently has this story of political intrigue taken its place as one of the composer’s greatest works. This production stars the incomparable Placido Domingo, who astounded audiences with his recent Met performance in this role, for which he became a baritone. Conducted by Daniel Barenboim and directed by Federico Tiezzi at Teatro alla Scala in co-production with Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Berlin. This productions stars Plácido Domingo, Ferruccio Furlanetto, Anja Harteros, and Adriana Damato, and runs 3 hrs 10 min. This simulcast is part of the Bryn Mawr Film Institute's Thursday Opera Subscription Series Live-Delay Simulcasts, which includes a performance of The Queen of Spades on Thursday, July 1.
