Ice Cream Making in Early America!
July 10, 2010
Beat the summer heat at the Mill at Anselma with a day of exciting family activities! Indulge your sweet tooth with 18th-century ice cream-making demonstrations by visitor favorite Susan Plaisted, then take a complimentary discount coupon just up the road to the Chester Springs Creamery and enjoy the many flavors they have to offer. Watch our millers grind corn in the colonial way and have hands-on fun sifting flour just like it was done 250 years ago. Get a taste of history with free samples of baked goods made from our very own stone-ground flour! The Mill at Anselma (c. 1747) served its local agricultural community for three centuries and is considered the most complete example of a Colonial-era custom grist mill in the United States. Now restored and recognized as a National Historic Landmark, the Mill at Anselma provides a powerful educational resource, allowing visitors to experience Chester County’s industrial and agricultural past through flour milling demonstrations, tours of the site and hands-on family activities. Sponsored by Bassett's Ice Cream of Philadelphia, PA.
