With their large fragrant blooms in luscious colors, peonies have long been a spring favorite. But many gardeners have been frustrated by gorgeous flowers that end up with their heavy heads in the mud. If that describes you, then it is time to discover the wonderful new varieties that keep their heads up and grow beautifully. To learn more, join Eleanor Tickner, president and co-founder of the Mid-Atlantic Peony Society, for a tour of her Glen Mills peony garden which features over 200 varieties of herbaceous and intersectional peonies. As she shows off her favorites, Eleanor explains the different types of peonies and offers guidance on selection, planting, and culture of these long-lived and sturdy perennials, and provides a few cut blooms and an informational handout to take home. Plants will be available for purchase. Meet at Tyler Arboretum to carpool to the garden, which is just up the road.
