Pharaoh’s Flowers: The Botanical Treasures from Tutankhamun’s Tomb
April 2, 2010
When you think of ancient Egypt, evocative images come to mind: the Nile River, the Pyramids, the Sphinx and, almost certainly, the pharaoh Tutankhamun and his fabulous tomb. Many people, however, are unaware that abundant flowers and other botanical remains were included in Tutankhamun’s tomb for his journey into the next world. Join Dr. Steven Phillips, Research Associate of Penn Museum’s Egyptian Section, as he delivers a richly illustrated lecture, which is perfect for families. Learn about Tutankhamun’s botanical treasures and see that like ourselves, the ancient Egyptians incorporated the beauty of flowers and plants into this life, as well as into their afterlife.
