Dirt! The Movie
March 24, 2010
It's under our feet and under our fingernails, but what is it? And how did it get there? Inspired by William Bryant Logan's acclaimed book Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth, find out how industrial farming, mining and urban development have led us toward cataclysmic droughts, starvation, floods and climate change. Dirt is a part of everything we eat, drink and breathe. Which is why we should stop treating it like, well...dirt. Join us for a Dirt Expo after the screening--there's more to learn about the stuff under your feet than you thought! Interactive exhibits include how to compost with worms, identifying soil types and cover planting for better soil. Dirt! is the featured film for March 2010 in the ITVS COMMUNITY CINEMA line-up. Presented in partnership with local public television stations and leading community organizations, Community Cinema holds monthly preview screenings in select markets across the country, showcasing selections from the new season of Independent Lens and making a real contribution on a range of current social issues by connecting communities with organizations, information and the opportunity to get involved. Presented by WHYY and ITVS in partnership with Mill Creek Farm, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Weavers Way Coop Community Programs. Special thanks to Amaryllis Theatre Company, Art-Reach, Deaf-Hearing Communication Centre and Liberty Resources, Inc. for making this an all-access event.
