Taína Asili carries on the tradition of her ancestors, fusing present and past struggles into one poetic voice. She is a puertorriqueña vocalist, poet, visual artist, educator, and community organizer from Philadelphia, PA and Albany, NY. Her newest artistic work is with her live band, Taína Asili y La Banda Rebelde, soulful vocals laid over a unique infusion of Afro-Caribbean, reggae, rock, hip hop, and flamenco and sounds. The band’s eclectic style represents the diversity of its band members, who have origins in Puerto Rico, Sicily, Greece, Brazil and Ghana. Monia McIntyre is an engaging and passionate performer who brings every aspect of her spirit to shows. Wowing audiences with her deep, frame-defying voice and unorthodox cello technique, which often involves the use of: slapping, plucking and strumming. She effortlessly blends the genres of jazz, blues, soul, reggae and middle-eastern music, creating her own musical landscape.
