In partnership with the Center for Ancient Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, the National Constitution Center will host a unique event in conjunction with the Ancient Rome & America exhibition that explores our nation’s Roman inheritance. At 3:00 p.m., four experts will deliver 20-minute talks on subjects ranging from “Norton, the First Emperor of America” to “Classical Influences in American Colonial Art.”  Speakers will deliver two keynote addresses, each followed by a question and answer session with the audience. Guests are then invited to enjoy wine and cheese, engage in discussion with the speakers, and tour the exhibition, where experts will be stationed to provide insight into key artifacts on display. Confirmed scholars include Campbell Grey, Curatorial Consultant for the exhibition and Assistant Professor of Classical Studies at the University of Pennsylvania; Caroline Winterer, Curatorial Consultant for the exhibition and Associate Professor of History at Stanford University; Kathleen Brown, Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania; Alison Futrell, Associate Professor of History at the University of Arizona; Lothar Haselberger, Professor in Roman Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania and Alexandra Kirtley, Assistant Curator of American Decorative Arts at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
