The morning will begin with a docent guided tour of the Pearl S. Buck House in Perkasie, PA. The Pearl S. Buck House is located on the site of her sixty-acre American homestead, Green Hills Farm. Pearl Buck was raised in China as the daughter of missionary parents. She returned permanently to The United States in 1934 after writing her classic novel The Good Earth, for which she received the Pulitzer Prize. She lived her last thirty-eight years in this 1835 farmhouse, which represents an excellent example of nineteenth-century Pennsylvania architecture. Following lunch at an area restaurant, you will have an afternoon docent tour of the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, PA. The James A. Michener Art Museum, established in 1988, is home to a world class collection of Pennsylvania impressionist paintings. The museum is named for Doylestown’s most famous son, the Pulitzer Prize winning writer, who first dreamed of creating a regional art museum in 1960. The Special Changing Exhibition at the Michener Museum will be “Icons of Costume: Hollywood’s Golden Era.”
