Philagrafika 2010: Independent Project - Intersection
February 24-March 27, 2010
Cerulean Arts is pleased to present Intersection, an Independent Project of Philagrafika 2010, Philadelphia’s international festival celebrating print in contemporary art. Intersection features the work of Erin Castellan, Lisa Marie Hamilton, Jill Parisi and Rita Reisser. Curated by Lisa Marie Hamilton, the work focuses on prints which intersect with other media such as sculpture, installation and textiles. Erin Castellan’s imagery begins with a monoprint, a painterly, one-of-a-kind print which is reworked and layered with a variety of media including embroidery, painting, and drawing. Lisa Hamilton is inspired by organic forms and the interrelationships and metaphors these objects suggest, combining screen prints, Japanese paper, wire forms, and porcelain for the sculptural works in this exhibition. A respect for the traditions of both printmaking and hand papermaking, along with an inquisitive disposition, fuel Jill Parisi's sculptural paper images and objects. Rita Reisser’s works explore the dimensional quality of printing. Reisser’s lithographs are printed on and from felted forms woven into paper or canvas.
