The play takes place in the spring of 1965 when two Boston seminary students made their way, along with dozens of others, to join Martin Luther King on the march from Selma to Montgomery. Jonathan Daniels stayed on that warm summer. He fought the notion suggested by nearly everyone that he just "go home." Slowly, he gained the confidence of a young Stokely Carhmicheal and others working to secure civil rights for African-Americans in those Alabama communities. A threat of violence surrounding them, and one day in August, that violence came to bear fatally on Jonathan. His sacrifice is evidenced with his name inscribed on the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery. Based on this true story, the play "Six Nights in the Black Belt" reveals the path he discovered to his service and how his legacy inspired others.
