Accelerate your growth as an artist! This thoughtful, step-by-step class will guide you through an exploration of the face. Students will focus on people and portraits and gain a knowledge and understanding of the face, head, proportion, and structure, in order to draw evocative, expressive, and accurate portraits. Through a series of exercises and studies including work with pencil, charcoal, and chalk pastel, you’ll see your skills develop each week as you hone your understanding of the structures underlying the face and your ability to render what you see. Mid-course, you’ll break from conventions and take plaster casts of your own face then use these to inform your future work to better understand facial structure. Develop a sensitive understanding for color and learn to observe and capture light as it exists in the world around us.
