Philagrafika 2010: Out of Print
February 18, 2010
As part of Philagra?ka 2010: Out of Print, the Rosenbach worked with contemporary printmaker Enrique Chagoya, who created a print edition based upon a print in the Rosenbach’s collection by George Cruikshank. Cruikshank was a populist artist whose socially critical images were abundant in the newspapers, magazine, books and broadsides of this time. For three days, Philagrafika will be transforming a room at the Museum into an intimate venue set up much like a print study room. Participants will be invited to compare and contrast the work of George Cruikshank, a proli?c and controversial printmaker of the 19th century with the work of Enrique Chagoya, a 21st century artist who uses similar approaches to address contemporary subjects. Participants will also get the chance to hand color a reproduction of Enrique Chagoya’s print The Head Ache.
