MULTICULTURAL

Nahnu al-Amal/We Are the Hope
January 5-February 7, 2010
Stop by the Walnut Street Library to view beautiful artwork created by young artists in Spring 2009 under the direction of Tremain Smith. These workshops integrated Arabic letters and words into encaustic painting. Inspired by Barack Obama’s message of hope and change during the presidential campaign, students chose to create a collective piece that says “Nahnu al-Amal” or “We Are the Hope” in Arabic. Each person chose to represent either “Nahnu” (”we are”) or “al-Amal” (”the hope”), using a variety of media and techniques on wood panels.
