CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

Jewish American Literature
April 7, 2010
Examining work by prominent American Jewish writers such as Philip Roth, Bernard Malamud and Chaim Potok through some of the more recent, contemporary figures such as Michael Chabon and Myla Goldberg, among others, this series explores the gains and losses of the American Jewish community's movement from the margin to the center of American life and values. What characteristics do these authors envision as distinctly Jewish? As distinctly American? How do these literary explorations match understandings of Jewish identity and Jewish survival? Instructor: Dr. Emilie Passow (Drexel University)
