Modern Hebrew Literature in Translation

Beginning with the literature created around the turn of the 20th century, this course follows the astounding journey of Hebrew literature from a creative endeavor of a small number of people to a major literary presence. Special attention is paid to the cultural and historical context of the various writers and their works. Writers will include Amihai, Bialik, Goldberg, Agnon, Liebrecht and Sabato. No knowledge of Hebrew is required. Instructor: Yechiel Schur.
