This exhibition will focus on decorated utilitarian stoneware objects. Stoneware, a type of ceramic, was made using a specific blend of clay which contained silica and kaolin. When fired at an extremely high temperature, the crocks, jugs, and jars made from this type of clay would become extremely durable, and salt-glazing would make the jars impervious—perfect for pickling meats and other foods.
