Cai Guo-Qiang: Fallen Blossoms
December 11, 2009-March 1, 2010
Cai Guo-Qiang: Fallen Blossoms presents new work from the artist Cai Guo-Qiang's residency at The Fabric Workshop and Museum. The exhibition is a meditation on the themes of memory and the passage of time, inspired by the lifelong friendship shared by Marion Boulton Stroud, Founder and Director of The Fabric Workshop and Museum, and Anne d'Harnoncourt, Director of The Philadelphia Museum of Art. The installation features a new gunpowder drawing on silk, submerged in a flowing, man-made river, as well as an open tapestry studio where resident weavers from Hunan province in China will practice their craft daily. There will also be displays of the artist's prior gunpowder and explosion work.
