A bonfire of a giant Phoenix sculpture in the middle of Phoenixville! Come watch the bird burn at the 6th Annual Firebird Festival. The Firebird is another name for the Phoenix, a mythical bird and namesake of Phoenixville. Area artists have come together to build a 29-foot Phoenix in downtown, historic Phoenixville. On this eve, close to the darkest day of the year, Phoenixville will light up as it becomes a performance art venue. There will be performances in various locations along Bridge Street and at the Firebird site (347 Bridge Street), you can hear the Phoenix myth told by Storytelling Irma at the Colonial Theatre, followed by a performance by the Firebird Improv Orchestra and on the main stage at the Firebird site, enjoy bands from Rock and Roll After School and Spirit Wing, a popular Native American group. There will be a procession by the Drumming for Sanity Percussion Ensemble will lead festival-goers from the Colonial Theatre to the Firebird site. Two huge peace birds will circle the effigy and then make way for The Playing Mantis to perform fire dances. The Phoenix sculpture will be lit at 8PM. Clay birds, made by the community, have been buried under the Phoenix and will be fired in the Firebird, depicting rebirth. Come celebrate the rebirth of this classic steel town!
