CHOSEN Dance Company and The History of Hip-Hop Dance and Music: Live Demonstration and Lecture
October 15, 2009
The Drexel Dance Program of the Department of Performing Arts is proud to welcome Philly’s own Clyde Evans’ CHOSEN Dance Company as they entertain and educate their audience on the music, people, events and dance that have all contributed to the creation of the phenomenon known as Hip-Hop. Rock Steady Crew, b-boys, The Sugar Hill Gang, the Bronx, locking and the windmill…these Hip-Hop staples and much more will be discussed and demonstrated during a fun-filled night of music and dance.
Founded in 2001 by artistic director Clyde Evans (former principal with pioneering local dance troupe, Rennie Harris Puremovement), CHOSEN Dance Company operates with the mission of making Hip-Hop culture more accessible to a wider audience, regardless of age, race or gender while also validating its place in the world as a legitimate art form. Through education and entertainment, the company’s goal is to present Hip-Hop in a positive light, and CHOSEN ‘s performances do not incorporate bad language or depictions of violence.
