Acclaimed slide trumpeter Steven Bernstein will lead his Millennial Territory Orchestra (in celebration of their 10th anniversary) through a performance of Don Cherry's ambitious "Relativity Suite," which was commissioned by the Jazz Composer's Orchestra Association 40 years earlier and recorded on Valentine's Day in 1973. The composition is an ambitious blend of free jazz, Indian drones, Chinese ballads, orchestral grandeur and primal chants. This will mark the ensemble's second performance of this rarely heard work (still unreleased on CD). Masters of interpreting early jazz standards, Bernstein and Millennial Territory Orchestra seek to present a more coherent and organized interpretation of this sprawling epic.
