    From the intact tomb of an Egyptian pharaoh to the enigmatic ancient sculptures of Easter Island, some of the world’s greatest archaeological discoveries are featured at the Penn Museum’s new monthly lecture series, offered the first Wednesday of every month, October 2009 through June 2010.

    Oct. 7 - Everywhere the Glint of Gold: The Discovery of the Tomb of Tutankhamun

    Nov. 4 - Ankor! Deep in the jungles of Cambodia, ruins of a forgotten kingdom called Angkor came to the attention of 19th century Europe with the publication of sketches by naturalist Henri Mouhot.

    Dec. 2 - Pompeii A.D. 79: The Treasure of Rediscovery

    Jan. 6 - China’s First Emperor: Man and the Empire for all Eternity

    Feb. 3 - Machu Picchu and the Incas

    March 3 - Lascaux In ancient caves in the south of France, boys in 1940 discovered 17,000 year old paintings and artifacts made by our early ancestors.

    April 7 - Lucy in Our Eyes with Diamonds

    May 5 - The Easter Island Statue Project

    June 2 - The Sutton Hoo Ship Burial and the Origins of the English Speaking Peoples
