The Ghost in the Graveyard: the Origin and Natural History of America's Hallowe'en Customs
October 21, 2009
The American celebration of Halloween is an intricate weave of many beliefs. Join Dr. Jill Furst, of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, at 7 pm on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library, 680 Radcliffe Street, for discussion that explores why we as Americans pay tribute to Halloween in the manner that we do. Her presentation is illustrated with 18th and 19th century paintings, prints and paper ephemera. This event, solely funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, is free to the public.
