CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

Bird of Prey Workshop
November 12, 2009
If you’re a beginning birder or a lifelong lover of birds of prey, this hands-on workshop will give you a better understanding of raptor anatomy, identification, and migration. Not only will we examine prepared wings, feet, and skulls but we will peer inside a raptor specimen’s mouth, feel the neck vertebrae, find the ears, and more! Participants will also compare their finds to some of the live raptors in our collection. Educators will share tips on identification, where to see raptors migrating, recent research on threats to migrating birds and how we can help, and answer your questions in a small group format. This workshop is led by the Academy’s Live Animal Center Manager Laura McRae, a certified wildlife rehabilitator, and Michele Bassler, the Academy’s supervisor for outreach programs and lifelong birder.
