Concerto alla Venetiana: A Season of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos
January 23, 2010
The Washington Post has described Philadelphia Baroque Orchestra Tempesta di Mare as having "the energy of a rock solo with the craft of a classical cadenza." The group will devote its 2009-2010 season to performing the entire collection of J.S. Bach's famed Brandenburg Concertos alongside works by composers from within Bach's circle and influences from earlier generations. Concerto alla Venetiana features the group's namesake piece: Vivaldi's Triple Concerto "La Tempesta di Mare" and the grandiose natural trumpet of Bach's Brandenburg II Concerto. This performance is a collaboration with Baltimore-based Pro Musica Rara, one of America's first Baroque Ensembles.
